Globe Amaranth
Gomphrena globosa
Origin: Central America; cultivated globally for ornament and tea · Family: Amaranthaceae
Globe amaranth produces small papery flowers — like tiny clovers — in vibrant magenta and white. Because the petals are technically bracts (modified leaves), they retain their colour and structure indefinitely after drying. In a Flora Tea heart they form the deep-pink notes that contrast against the green leaves.
Flavour
Subtle, almost fruity, with a clean grassy finish.

A short history
The Aztecs cultivated globe amaranth for ceremonial use long before European contact. Brought to Europe in the 17th century, it became known as one of the 'everlastings' — flowers that persist in dried bouquets through winter.
